Scott Allen who is a computer engineer by occupation and a tech enthusiast. He visited China several times and was fascinated by the cell phone parts markets in Shenzhen, China. While his several journeys to China, he had a question if he could make his own cellphone. And then he finally started assembling all the parts possible to build his own iPhone 6s. He started with the body first and bought a back panel of iPhone 6s initially. Later he bought the front glass and digitizer basically the screen parts. Later he went to a super busy mobile parts market to buy a logic board or say motherboard. He already had a battery so he checked if the parts assembled together works or not and they actually worked. Although by then he still didn’t had the home button, cameras and rest accessories.
Later he went to market again and got the rest part of the phone to make it work perfectly. He bought front camera, rear camera, the bottom part assembly of the logic board which houses lighting port, 3.5mm jack, some brackets and all the screws to put all parts and the casing together. Finally his phone was ready it it worked like a new iPhone. Later, he also got a iPhone 6s box with all stock accessories in it. He spend around $300 on this. He said that he was totally new to this and he didn’t had much hope but still he managed to do it. He mentioned that it takes a lot of patience to do such thing and he also added that anyone can do this as this is not any kind of rocket science. He also appreciated Apple saying that their phones are easy to assemble and easy to recycle. In his video he not only shows about his journey of assembling his own phone but also shows the booming Chinese electronics markets where finding parts is so easy. It took couple of months and a lot of patience for Scott Allen to complete his dream of building his own phone.
