iPhone 9 Leaks & Rumors: What we know so far
What’ll be the name- iPhone 9 or iPhone SE 2020?
There’s been a huge debate going around the marketing name of the new iPhone. Some have been referring it to as iPhone 9 while some have been calling it iPhone SE 2020. Well, the folks at 9to5Mac have lately discovered some fresh information about the device, affirming that the low-cost iPhone may simply be called iPhone SE with the new hardware being mentioned as the 2020 version.
The same has been alleged by the recently appeared Belkin screen protector listing on the Apple Store. Not only that, but Apple was also found accidentally offering AppleCare+ support for the new iPhone SE. The brand has now removed both the mentions from its website.
Design & Colors
To recall, the original iPhone SE was essentially the iPhone 5s with the updated hardware borrowed from the iPhone 6s. Likewise, the iPhone SE 2020 is said to come with a design similar to that of the iPhone 8, with a 4.7-inch screen size.
If reports are to be believed, you may see an iPhone 11-like frosted glass at the rear, followed by a 16:9 aspect ratio display upfront with Touch ID at the bottom. The same can be seen in the fresh renders published by OnLeaks. While there’s ample space for a TrueDepth camera, it’s likely to skip the Face ID. Apple will be selling the phone in a total of three colors, including White, Black, and PRODUCT (RED) options. Interestingly, makers have already started making cases for the device.
Specifications & Features
As mentioned, the iPhone SE 2020 will come with a 4.7-inch LCD display. Apple will be retaining the physical home button with Touch ID from iPhone 8, and there will be a single camera at the rear. The phone will measure 138.5mm in height and 67.4mm in width, followed by a thickness of 7.8mm. The device is said to be powered by the mighty Apple A13 Bionic processor, coupled with 3GB of RAM. Note that it’s the same chipset that powers the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max. Lastly, the company will be offering it in 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB storage models. Apart from improved performance and cameras from the original SE, you may also witness a significant bump in battery life. Apparently, a 5.5″ Plus variant is also said to be in works.
Price & Release Date
The iPhone SE 2020 launch is said to be imminent and is expected within this month. Going by the current rumors, Apple may unveil it by April 15 with shipments starting April 22. The recent appearance on JD.com and Verizon trade-in program listing further hints at an early arrival. As far as pricing is concerned, the base model with 64GB storage is reported to start at $399. To give you an idea, the iPhone 8 currently retails at $449 for the 64GB model. Anyway, let’s wait for the official launch to have the exact information on the device. Till then, stay tuned.
