The smartphone is expected to be featuring “Cover Glass Sensor (CGS)” technology to relocate the touch module from the display to the glass surface. The CGS technology will result in a display which will be lighter and shock resistant. The CGS will also have a thin-film sensor to the touch film sensor which will be included in CGS but the purpose of the film is still unknown. This will most definitely increase the cost of the touch panel from the existing price of $23 to $26. TO make it even, KGI said that Apple will remove the 3D Touch feature from the 6.1 inches iPhones. This is an interesting development because Apple’s 3D touch tech is integrated into the OS very well. The other two iPhone models which leaked with the entry-level iPhone will launch in 2018 are a 5.8 inch OLED iPhone X successor and another one is a 6.5 inches OLED display iPhone. These models will feature the 3D touch technology including the OLED display. Apple is planning to use the CGS tech in future iPhones instead of the 3D Touch feature. It is still unclear if the new film-sensor could be some replaced 3D touch tech.
