YU has been talk of the town because it aims to do things differently. Micromax has launched this brand to take on Chinese rivals like OnePlus and Xiaomi, who have an active community, custom software and retail online. That’s the same path YU wishes to tread on.
“Yu is about ecosystem of devices. YU will be about customizations and services, to give users full control of what they want” Said Rahul Sharma. “Cyanogen is the temple of customization and will handle the customization aspects in YU smartphones” To start with you will have 2 themes on YU phones and the number will increase with time. It’s a dual SIM phone and software allows you to easily block numbers as Spam. You can encrypt the device, lock specific folders, choose what permissions to grant to various apps. Yu flaunts 24 bit loss less audio optimized for low battery use. YU has partnered with Nextbit to introduce a feature which saves all your data and settings seamlessly. You can then sync these settings on different devices. Camera app is simple to use with several modes including panorama, burst mode and HDR. The app also includes several filters and options for recording slow motion videos at 60 percent per second. YU is working on an update to increase this to 120fps. Rumor mill was spot on, which means that YU indeed comes with a 5.5 Inch IPS LCD Display with 720p HD resolution amounting to 267 ppi, protected by Gorilla Glass 3 on top. The processor is 64 bit Snapdragon 615 64 bit Cortex A53 based octa core processor with 4G LTE support, 2 GB DDR3 RAM and 16 GB expandable storage. The company enumerated advantages of 64 bit computing, which included more power efficiency, H.265 codec for better compression and support for more memory.
The camera has been sourced from Sony. The Exmor sensor has a wide angle F2.2 aperture 5p lens on top. You can record 1080p videos at 30fps. There is also a 5 MP selfie camera at the front with wide angle 4p lens. There is a blue filter on the camera to balance the light intensity.
There is a 2500 mAh battery and Micromax claims that OS optimizations will improve battery performance by 25 percent. Micromax also promised that Yureka users will be the first to get Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade in India.
Micromax wants to make this as developer friendly as possible. It is offering kernel source, unlocked boot loader and freedom to do what ever you want with your device under warranty. There will be new software updates every month and doorstep warranty. Micromax will also be offering a leather crafted case with the smartphone as promotional offer. Developing story
