The decision comes through mutual agreement between the Chief Executive Officer and the HMD Global Board of Directors, according to the press release of the company. Arto Nummela will leave HMD Global with immediate effect. In their press release, HMD Global did not comment on the reason for the resignation of Arto Nummela. Commenting on this announcement, Sam Chin, Chairman of the Board, HMD Global, said, “Arto Nummela has played a key role in the creation of the HMD Global operation, building the team and launching our first products. On behalf of the whole Board, I thank Arto for his contribution and wish him well in his future endeavors.” Florian Seiche, currently the President of the company, has been appointed to the role of acting CEO starting immediately. Florian has been a part of HMD as President since the beginning of the company. Prior to his role in HMD, Mr. Seiche has worked with Microsoft, Nokia, and HTC among other companies.
On the other hand, Mr. Nummela joined HMD last year after spending over a decade at Nokia and Microsoft in leadership roles. After resigning, his future plans remain unclear as of now. Although his resignation from senior level post comes as a surprise to the tech community. Since the decision comes right after the time when the HMD Global is setting its feet with the Nokia smartphones. The Nokia 8 is about to be launched. The company has also been into massive marketing for its already-released smartphones. The company’s management in India remains unchanged, a spokesperson for the company told.
