Display and Processor

Understanding that many consumers prefer large screen devices as they are comfortable for browsing, playing games and watching videos, both the companies have included large displays in their offerings. Firstly, the Desire 816 boasts of a 5.5 inch Super LCD 2 capacitive touch screen display packing a resolution of 1280×720 pixels that translates to a pixel density of 267 pixels per inch. In comparison, the HP Slate 6 packs a 6 inch IPS capacitive touch screen display with a HD resolution of 1280×720 pixels and a pixel density of 245 pixels per inch. While the IPS display in the HP phablet delivers exceptional viewing angles and clear images they have slow response times and consume more power. Whereas, the Super LCD 2 display on the HTC phablet consumes less power saving the battery life. HTC Desire 816 includes a 1.6 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor coupled with Adreno 305 GPU. The HP Slate 6 is stuffed with a quad-core Marvell PX1088 processor with all its cores ticking at a slower speed of 1.2 GHz. The HTC offering is claimed to deliver superior multi-tasking with its 1.5 GB of RAM as opposed to the 1 GB of RAM in the HP Slate 6.

Camera and Internal Storage

The primary camera in Desire 816 is a 13 MP sensor with auto focus and LED flash along with features such as HDR and 1080p video recording. Also, there is a 5 MP secondary camera for video calling at 720p resolution. The HP Slate 6 on the other hand includes a 5 MP primary camera at its back with auto focus and LED flash and a 2 MP front-facing snapper for making video calls. To handle the storage needs, there is 8 GB of internal storage in the Desire 816 that can be expanded up to 128 GB using a micro SD storage. However, the exact capacity is yet to be confirmed and we do not know if the Indian variant will include 32 GB or 128 GB of expandable support. In comparison, the HP Slate 6 features 16 GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 64 GB with the help of a micro SD card.

Battery and Features

Battery capacity in the Desire 816 is 2,600 mAh, whereas that in the HP Slate 6 is 3,000 mAh. It is unclear of which device will deliver superior backup, but both the batteries appear to provide decent levels of backup. On the software front, the Desire 816 runs on Android 4.4 KitKat operating system while the Slate 6 is based on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, which needs update. Connectivity features onboard include 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on both the devices, while Desire 816 stands ahead with NFC and LTE in selected regions.
