We have already seen the camera prowess of Huawei P9 and we are more than happy with the camera performance. Other than camera, there is one more thing that is unique about this phone, and it is the latest Kirin 955 processor. The best thing about this processor is its architecture. It is a 16nm chipset with Octa-core (4×2.5 GHz Cortex-A72 & 4×1.8 GHz Cortex-A53) cores. The GPU used is Mali-T880 MP4, which is considered to be one of the best in its league and has 3GB of RAM. We decided to test the performance of the phone in day to day usage. We threw several tasks on it, and we made sure that the tasks cover all the areas to test the performance. Here is what we found while testing the Huawei P9.
Multitasking
A phone with 3GB RAM sounds good enough for a basic level of multitasking we do. Although some of us are aggressive users, and like doing too much on our phones. We have seen a lot of phones with 3GB RAM, that lag in between apps and animations. Kirin 955 with 3GB of RAM does an amazing job to keep the operations smooth. I opened more than 10 apps including heavy games and apps using Wi-Fi. There is a very rare chance that this phone shows any sign of hiccups. So all in all, you will not find Huawei P9 sticking up a particular screen even when you are using more than 5-6 apps at once.
Battery optimization
When I first came to know that P9 comes with a 3000mAh battery, I had no good feelings about it. Later when I started using Huawei P9, I realized why the company is happy with this battery. The processor is not just good for multitasking and gaming, Kirin 955 is also great in battery optimization, I recorded the battery drop rate while gaming, streaming video, and surfing. Here is a table that shows how much battery drain we recorded in these three scenarios. [table id=635 /] If you are still not done with these stats, we further compared it with the top flagships in the market right now. Huawei P9 stands right after the iPhone 6 in terms of battery benchmarks, and then comes Samsung S7 and LG G5. But when it comes to charging time, LG G5 comes first, then S7 and then P9 followed by iPhone 6s.
Gaming Performance
Nova 3 is one of the most played action game on smartphones and it is one of the most graphic greedy games as well. The first thing I do on my phones is to load it with few essential apps for testing and my personal use. One of those apps is Nova 3 when it comes to high end phones. I played Nova 3 and Asphalt 8 one after other for an hour and my experience while gaming was great. I did not find it getting stuck or flickering frames any time during the game-play. Not only the performance was impressive, it was also handling the heating very well and the battery drain was well under control. Duration- 1 Hour Battery Drop- 16% Highest Temperature- 38.2 Degree Celsius
