All of this is made possible with the help of AI and this technology is all set to debut with the Google Pixel Android smartphones soon. As of now there are only limited details and no timelines on this.
Google’s gaze detection system will be discussed in detail next week when Hee Jung Ryu and Florian Schroff will present a project they’re calling an electronic screen protector at the Neural Information Processing Systems conference in Long Beach, California. Google will be able to attain gaze detection with the help of AI technology which helps track eyeball movement. The incredible front facing camera that the Pixel phones come with also plays a major part here, helping the AI see sharply as to where the person behind you is looking. This is a public but unlisted video uploaded by Ryu himself, who is going to talk at the conference. Most interestingly, this isn’t even the first time Google is experimenting with eyeball tracking technology. The company has shown interest in such technologies over a decade ago. A 2003 patent from Google was all about tracking the pointer of the computer based on the user’s vision. Another pay-per-gaze format of advertising was also mentioned somewhere down the road.
