Camera and Internal Storage
The Galaxy Tab S 8.4 features an 8 MP camera module at its back which has LED flash coupled with it. This unit is capable of recording FHD 1080p videos and also arrives with auto focus. There is a 2.1 MP front-facing snapper onboard to assist in making video calls and in clicking selfies. So, the camera department can be claimed as a decently equipped one. The device comes in two configurations – 16 GB and 32 GB of internal storage capacities that can be increased further with the help of a micro SD card by another 128 GB. Hence, we do not have any complaints in this segment.
Processor and Battery
At the core of the tablet is an octa-core Exynos 5 Octa chipset that houses a 1.9 GHz Cortex A15 quad-core processor and a 1.3 GHz Cortex A7 quad-core processor. This SoC is joined by Mali-T628 MP6 GPU and 3 GB of RAM that deliver excellent performance. This is the same processor that we saw in the Samsung Galaxy S5 and it renders a decent level of performance. The battery unit inside the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 is rated at 4,900 mAh. This battery should be pretty much sufficient to handle the tablet’s display and processor. It is claimed by the company to last longer with the Ultra Power Saving Mode to enjoy entertainment without worrying about the battery life.
Display and Features
The Galaxy Tab S 8.4 houses an 8.4 inch WQXGA Super AMOLED display that has a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels and an aspect ratio of 16:10. The display delivers over 90% increased color coverage that will render the best visual experience. The Adaptive Display feature automatically tweaks the sharpness, gamma and saturation and makes the screen visible even under direct sunlight. Further, the Super AMOLED display consumers less power as compared to the usual LCD displays. Running on Android 4.4 KitKat, the tablet comes packed with a slew of features such as Papergarden, Galaxy Gifts, Marvel Unlimited, Kindle for Samsung, Netflix, My Library, Quick Connect, Multi User Mode, Fingerprint Scanner, Kids Mode, Samsung WatchON and Sidesync 3.0.
