This has been reported by tipster Evan Blass on his website VentureBeat citing someone familiar with the company’s plans. As per the report, Samsung will introduce its latest flagships at the CES 2018, however, the company will still be holding an official launch event in March, like it did this year for the Galaxy S8 and S8+. Apart from the unveiling event, Evan also claims that the person has shared some of the details of the new models with VentureBeat. However, it is not clear how much information will be revealed at CES. Samsung is said to be launching these phones with similar appearances to their predecessors, but with a few considerable improvements such as more RAM and a dual rear camera setup.
Samsung Galaxy S9, S9+ Specifications
The new phones are codenamed as Star 1 and Star 2 and bear model numbers SM-G960 and SM-G965. If we talk about specifications and features, both the Galaxy S9/S9+ are supposed to feature same design and display as Galaxy S8/S8+. The Galaxy S9 and S9+ will feature the same 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch curved-edge Super AMOLED Infinity displays respectively. Coming to the hardware, no specific chipset has been mentioned as of now. However, the device is said to sport a 10-nm processor, which suggests that it is the upcoming Snapdragon 845 from Qualcomm. Moreover, just like Galaxy S8, they will also launch a similar Exynos model for some regions. As far as RAM is concerned, according to the report, this time both models will not share the same RAM. Along with a bigger screen, the S9+ will reportedly offer more RAM i.e. 6GB in comparison to 4GB on Galaxy S9. Moreover, it will also feature a secondary rear camera, similar to the Note 8. Both models will pack 64GB of internal storage, supported by a microSD slot. Further, both the phones will feature the similar back side of the device with the fingerprint sensor on the bottom, regardless of camera modules. Another noticeable change will be the addition of AKG stereo speakers. Both the models will feature the 3.5mm headphone jack. Samsung also plans to introduce a DeX docking station that can utilize the phone’s screens as either a touchpad or a virtual keyboard. We have already seen the DeX technology that offers desktop-like experience on a compatible Samsung smartphones when attached to an external display.
