Google is a rather confused child. There have been multiple occasions of Google having celebrated it’s birthday on different dates. Let us take a quick look at the curious case of Google’s ever-changing birth date.
When is Google’s Birthday?
Let us go all the way back, let us go back to 15th September, 1997 when the domain Google.com was registered. However, a year later, Google was incorporated on the 4th of September, 1998. From 1997 to 2002 – Google did not celebrate it’s birthday.
2002: Google’s Birthday Celebrated on 27th September
On the 27th of September, 2002, Google put up a Google Doodle celebrating it’s 4th birthday. This seemed rather arbitrary as nothing significant had happened four years ago on 27th of September.
2003: Google’s Birthday Celebrated on 8th September
Next year however, Google decided to celebrate it’s 5th birthday about two weeks earlier! This was strange because technically this would mean that Google has celebrated two birthdays in 365 days.
2004: Google’s Birthday Celebrated on 7th September
Google does it yet again. Another change in their birth-date and another birthday celebration in less than 365 days! This time, Google’s birthday came one day before their birthday last year – 7th September.
2005: Google’s Birthday Celebrated on September 26
After years of celebrating their birthday twice in 365 days, Google finally moved to a new birth date where they did not celebrate their birthday for over 365 days. The date moved from 7th of September to 19 days later, the 26th of September as Google turned 7.
2006 Onwards: Google’s Birthday Celebrated on 27th of September
Google made one last change to it’s birthday calendar in 2006 when it celebrated it’s birthday one day later than it did in 2005. Google’s birthday was celebrated on 27th of September and it has been that way since 2006. It has been ten years and there have been no changes. With two weeks to go to Google’s next birthday, let us see if Google does make any changes to this.
