Physical Overview

The Xiaomi Mi Max 2 features a metal unibody design which makes the phone premium to hold. Well, technically it is a phablet and weighs 211 grams.

At the front, we have a 6.44 inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) IPS LCD panel with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 for protection. The device has a 74% screen-to-body ratio.

Above the screen, we have the front camera, earpiece, and sensors.

Below the display, we can see 3 capacitive buttons for Recent apps, Home, and Back (left to right).

Coming to the back, the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 has a Metal Unibody design which makes it look sleek and premium. The camera and dual-tone dual LED flash are at the top-left corner and we have a fingerprint sensor at the upper-center of the device. The lower half of the Mi Max 2 has ‘Mi’ branding along with certain certifications mentioned.

We have the Volume Rockers and Lock Button at the Right side of the device.

A 3.5mm earphone jack is present on top along with a secondary mic.

At the bottom we find the USB port and two speaker grills.

Display

The Mi Max 2 has a really good display. It comes with a 6.44 inch full HD IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution. The display comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 for protection. It offers crisp color reproduction and good viewing angles.

Camera

Coming to the camera department, the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 features a 12MP primary camera with f/2.2 aperture, phase detection autofocus and dual tone dual LED flash. It can shoot videos up to 2160 pixels @ 30 FPS and has a pixel size of 1.25 µm. The front-facing camera is a 5MP unit with f/2.0 aperture.

Hardware

The Mi Max 2 packs a Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor, clocked at 2.0 GHz, coupled with Adreno 506 GPU. The phablet comes with 4GB RAM and a choice between 64GB or 128GB internal storage. It has expandable storage up to 256GB via microSD card.

Software and Performance

In the software department, the Mi Max 2 runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box. The device is skinned with MIUI 8, Xiaomi’s optimized UI for phones and tablets. The UI is smooth and should offer a good gaming experience with ample RAM and good processor. Xiaomi is working on the MIUI 9 update already, which should be available in the coming weeks.

Battery and Connectivity

The Xiaomi Mi Max 2 is powered by a big 5,300 mAh non-removable battery, that can power it for more than a day. Also, it features Quick Charge 3.0 for faster charging. In terms of connectivity, this is a dual Sim 4G enabled handset. The Mi Max 2 features Bluetooth, NFC and also comes with an Infrared blaster. However, even though it comes with a USB Type-C connector, it does not support USB 3.1 protocol. Overall, the Mi Max 2 covers all bases when it comes to power and connectivity options. The huge 5,300 mAh battery should generally last two days of usage in most scenarios.

Pricing and Availability

The Xiaomi Mi Max 2 is priced at Rs. 16,999. It comes only in one variant – 4GB RAM with 64GB internal storage. The phone will be available in both online and offline channels. As part of its 3rd anniversary, the Mi Max 2 will be available starting July 20th on Mi.com.

Xiaomi has partnered with Reliance Jio to offer up to 100GB of data for free to its users. The offer terms state that users will get 10GB extra data with every recharge of Rs. 309.
